Water Meters
The feedback we have received regarding the water meter installation program has been generally positive. Responses to some of the typical comments received:
- Installation of water meters is the responsible thing to do in terms of encouraging conservation and responsible use of water. The Alberta government has made it clear that water conservation, especially in southern Alberta, is a priority policy item.
- The Bible Camp is metered and when our water treatment plant can not supply both the Resort and the Bible Camp, the Bible Camp will need to pay to expand our or their storage capacity or find another source.
- The Caretaker has been tracking water use closely for many months and the Board has determined that excessive water use is not due to drip irrigation, sprinkler irrigation or pipeline leaks. After months of review and analysis, the Board is convinced that some Owner’s are using excessive amounts of water.
- During the winter when only the full time residents are consuming water, consumption levels are as expected. Owner’s irrigation use is the expected clause of our concerns with long term water plant capacity.
- The examples given in the June 26, 2006 RESIDENTIAL WATER METERS – IMPLEMENTATION PLAN were examples. The Board has not set the maximum allowable consumption amount or the fee for over usage. Based on comments from Owners, the Board may take more frequent meter readings for the first year to better monitor individual water use and then determine appropriate charges for over usage (e.g. monthly or seasonal charges).
- Alberta Environment has issued a letter to the Condo Corp. recommending that water meters be installed.
- The Board has contracted with a water meter supplier and it appears at this time that the installation costs will be about $175 per dwelling.
If you have not already done so, please leave a duplicate key with Ray to have your water meter installed in September or October, 2006.
