Travers condo proposal
A group proposing to build condos by the Travers Reservoir came by council last Wednesday to give councillors a look at what they envision.
The development would include 750 lots, a private marina and boat launch, swimming areas separate from the marina, and an indoor swimming pool. A golf course could also be located within the development.
“If (the indoor pool) does go in there, that could be a popular feature,” Coun. Rick Geschwendt told Larry Paterson, a Calgary-based landscape architect who spoke to
council last Thursday on behalf of the
developers.
The pool has always been part of the plan, Paterson replied.
The project is anticipated to be developed in four phases, and the latter phases would be determined by market demand. The first phase would comprise of 197 units, and 193 would be included in the second phase. The developers are not sure whether the marina would be part of the first phase, said Larry Paterson.
Paterson said the developers are applying to transfer a 435-square feet water licence to the site from Little Bow basin at Mosquito Creek, near Stavely, and the group is exploring its options for water service.
According to a brochure for the development, Alberta Environment has said taking water from Travers Reservoir to service the development wouldn’t be significant.
The group is figuring out what sanitary sewer and treatment system would work best, with input from Alberta Environment, said Paterson. The options are either to go with a lagoon or grouped septic tanks, with four variations on the table for each one of those options, he said. Because that decision has not been made yet, two development concept plans are being considered.
Public meetings are scheduled to go ahead in the coming months.
